The Periodic Table of the Muppets

A comprehensive depiction of many memorable Muppet characters from throughout the years (and some not-so-memorable ones as well).

Each square represents a different character and indicates the primary Muppeteer(s) for that character, as well as the year and production in which the character made its debut. Borders align with hair/hat colour, background aligns with skin/fur colour, and colour of the abbreviated name represents nose colour (for characters with noses that is).

The separate sections are based on the show the characters were either created for or most often associated with. The icons within each section are then organized by year of creation.

Available as prints and more at Redbubble and Society6.

  1. Brilliant, just brilliant. Any chance you could create a wallpaper of the image for Mac Book Pros and wallpaper in general? Cheers!

  5. To be honest, I am not quite sure if I should be happy or sad that there are no shirts available in my size (4XL/5XL).

My heart is sad - it is an absolutely fabulous design! - but my mind/wallet seems somewhat less sad. :)

  11. I'd REALLY like to see at least a data dump of what characters you're associated with which show? If I'm able to parse the small image correctly, you have Rowlf in the Muppet Show block and I'd really argue he deserves to be in the top block, assuming that's 'proto-everything' muppets, as you're unlikely to have a Jimmy Dean Show block. :)

    1. I essentially split the characters based on the show that they are most often associated with. Rowlf, for example, is most often associated with The Muppet Show (though his first appearances were in Purina Dog Chow commercials and the Jimmy Dean Show). Folks like Sweetums, Mahna Mahna and Thog are also pre-Muppet Show creations (among others), but most often associated with that show.

The one exception is Kermit, who may be clearly associated with both Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, but was first created for Sam & Friends. And I definitely thought it was appropriate that he was the first block.

  13. The images and wordplay is awesomely creative! Waiting on song/YouTube video for it. There are more muppet symbols (162) than the actual periodic table (118):-)
Check out a funky song about the periodic elements.
